Why a company outing in the centre of The Hague works

Rootz is housed in the oldest building on Grote Marktstraat, a listed coach house that has been a household name in the city since 1998. The building itself does some of the work straight away. A group walking in doesn’t need to be told why this is such a special place.

More practical is that everything stays inside. The activity, dinner and closing all take place in the same building, so a team outing in the centre of The Hague goes ahead just as well during a wet week in November.

For teams working in the city centre, that also saves a bus ride to an out-of-town location. Anyone walking from the office is there in a couple of minutes. Group activities in The Hague can thus simply start at half past one, with no gathering time and no driver.

And the space grows with it. We have three function rooms, each with its own bar, and for larger groups you can hire the entire building exclusively.

Activities for your team outing

We work together with professional event agencies who run the game and take care of the entire day from A to Z. You therefore keep a single point of contact for the programme, the room and the catering. These are the activities that we offer for corporate away days in The Hague.

City games and urban treasure hunts

In a city game, the city centre is the playing field. Your team starts at Rootz on the Grote Markt, sets off into the city to complete tasks, and returns here for the results and the first round.

This format works well for larger groups because you split the group up into small teams that set off independently. For teambuilding in The Hague, that yields better results than a presentation on collaboration.

Murder mystery dinner and Disco Bingo

At a murder mystery dinner, the activity and the food blend into one another. Between the rounds, we serve three courses or BBQ shared dining, meaning the programme fills itself from the aperitif until late into the evening.

Disco Bingo works in the same way, but with music instead of a storyline. Both are suitable when the outing takes place in the evening and you do not want to organise an activity and a restaurant separately.

Pub quiz and Crazy About Holland

The Rootz Pub Quiz takes place every last Wednesday of the month at 8.00 pm, comprising eight rounds, in Dutch and English. We also use this experience to organise a private team version, just as we do for Gek op Holland. Please contact us to book this private version, as the monthly quiz is open to the public and requires teams to register in advance.

Beer tasting as a team activity

At a beer tasting, your group will sample five beers guided by one of our certified beer experts. This costs €26 per person without food and €38 including food, for groups of twelve or more.

We have 30 beers on tap and well over 250 in bottle, so there is plenty to choose from. A tasting takes in styles such as pilsner, white beer, IPA, stout, tripel and saison, so that even the colleague who normally drinks lager will notice just how far the difference in taste extends.

Our house beer, Rootz Blond, is always on the menu. It was voted the best house beer in the Netherlands in 2015 and is the simplest explanation of why we take this craft seriously.

Dining or shared dining

You can arrange a company outing with dinner here in the same building where the activity took place. We work with fixed packages, so you know the cost per person for the day in advance.

Our head chef cooks with local and seasonal produce, meaning the menus change with the seasons. Vegetarian and vegan options are well represented, so dietary requirements are no exception here.

A three-course menu costs €39.50 and the luxury version €45. If you prefer something shorter, there are two-course options of €35 and €32.50. A buffet is €39.50 and a walking dinner starts at the same amount.

BBQ shared dining from the JOSPER grill starts at € 35, which you can upgrade with Picanha and Cote de Boeuf. If your programme runs throughout the day, we serve a lunch of € 20, € 22.50 or € 25. For a private meal within your own circle, you can read more about private dining.

Drinks packages

Unlimited drinks cost €21.50 per person for two hours, €26.50 for three hours and €31.50 for four hours. If you would like savoury snacks with that, that package starts at €24.50.

Individual bites are also possible. A table snack selection is €3.50 per person and a Dutch savoury snack assortment is €19 for sixteen pieces.

Space for your group

The question that usually comes first is whether the team will fit. For a group outing in The Hague or a staff outing with the entire department, we have three rooms and a terrace.

At 110 m², the Stamkamer is the largest room and accommodates 250 standing guests. It features its own bar and a stage with a lockable DJ booth, which is handy if there is music later in the evening.

The Opkamer is located on the first floor, measures 108.5 m² and accommodates 90 people seated or 150 standing. With a projector and screen, this is the ideal room for a group combining their outing with a presentation or a look back at the year.

The Tap Room and the terrace

The Tapkamer is our public café, where we accommodate drinks parties for up to approximately 20 people and dinners for up to approximately 25 people. The 275 m² terrace can be reserved for up to 22 people.

If you want the entire building to yourself, it involves 350 m² plus terrace and a maximum of 600 people. Room hire starts from 25 people and private events can run until 04:00.

Combining a team away day with a meeting

Many teams use the morning to work and the afternoon to do something together. That can be done here at the same address, without having to move the group in between.

A half-day meeting costs €25 per person without lunch and €31 with lunch included. A full day is €45.

This includes unlimited coffee, tea and Hague tap water with mint and lemon, soft drinks, fresh fruit, something sweet and a snack. The projector, flipchart and sound amplification are also included.

Accessibility and parking

Grote Marktstraat car park is located directly beneath our building, with the entrance from the Spui or the Prinsengracht. Your guests will therefore arrive without first having to drive around the city centre.

Around the corner are the Q-Park Lutherse Burgwal and Q-Park above the Texaco on the Laan. From both, it is a two-minute walk to the Grote Markt.

If your team is travelling by public transport, trams 2, 3, 4, 6 and 34 run from Den Haag Centraal to Grote Markt stop. Those trams run every five minutes and the journey takes two to four minutes.

This also makes it a viable location for a company outing in South Holland, with colleagues arriving by train from Rotterdam, Delft or Leiden.

Frequently asked questions about a company outing at Rootz

From how many people can I book a corporate away day?

You can hire a private room for 25 people or more. For a beer tasting, the minimum number is 12 people. Smaller groups are welcome in the Taproom, our public bar, with a sit-down meal for up to approximately 25 people.

Can we combine an activity and food at one location?

Yes. The activity, dinner and drinks will all take place at our premises on the Grote Marktstraat. You won't need to move the group in between and you'll arrange the entire programme with a single point of contact.

How much does a company outing with Rootz cost?

That depends on the composition of the day. A drinks package starts at €21.50 per person, a dinner at €32.50 and a beer tasting at €26. Based on your programme, we will draw up a tailored quote.

Is the trip indoors or outdoors?

Inside, in our listed building in the city centre. When the weather is fine, the 275 m² terrace is added. Only a city game takes place partly in the city; the rest of the programme is weatherproof.

Where can we park?

The Grote Marktstraat car park is located directly beneath our building. By public transport, you get off at the Grote Markt stop, two to four minutes from Den Haag Centraal.

Until what time can we stay?

Private events can run until 04:00. These are not our regular opening hours, so we will agree on the end time with you in advance when booking the room.
